Sophie Perkin

Sophie is a dedicated and inspiring individual with a passion for fitness, accessibility, and making a positive impact on the lives of others. Sophie’s journey has been shaped by her own experiences with spastic paraplegia/incomplete paraplegia, which has led her to excel in the fitness industry and champion inclusivity.

Currently, Sophie is preparing for bodybuilding competitions, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging stereotypes. Despite using a wheelchair, she has developed remarkable strength and mobility in her legs, showcasing her determination and resilience.

Sophie’s personal life is equally fulfilling, as she is a loving wife and mother to two daughters, along with being the proud owner of three dogs and three horses. Her dynamic family life keeps her constantly on the move, a reflection of her boundless energy and enthusiasm for life.

Professionally, Sophie has achieved the status of a level 2 gym instructor and runs an innovative and inclusive kids’ fitness class called IQ Warriors at her gym. One of the most rewarding aspects of her career, which spans just a few months, is witnessing the joy and empowerment on the faces of the children who attend her sessions. She takes great pride in inspiring the younger generation to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle.

Sophie’s qualifications and educational journey demonstrate her commitment to continuous growth and learning. She holds a PT level 2 qualification and is actively working towards level 3. Her educational background includes notable achievements, such as GCSEs with two B’s, seven C’s, two D’s, and an E in PE – a testament to her resilience in overcoming obstacles and limitations in standard physical education.

Furthering her passion for sports and accessibility, Sophie pursued a Btec in Sport Science during her college years. Her dedication to her family, particularly her two daughters who both have autism/ADHD, led her to complete courses in autism, ADHD, and challenging behavior. Sophie’s ability to balance her personal and professional life while acquiring specialized knowledge underscores her commitment to making a positive impact on others.

Sophie’s aspiration within the bodybuilding industry is not only to excel personally but also to drive change and inclusivity. She envisions a future where the disability category in bodybuilding becomes more prominent. Currently, most federations have a single category that includes both male and female competitors. Sophie’s mission is to advocate for separate categories – men’s disability and women’s disability – in order to ensure that disabled athletes have a dedicated platform to showcase their talents and inspire others.

In her relentless pursuit of excellence, dedication to inclusivity, and passion for empowering others, Sophie is a true role model and advocate for change. Her story serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us that with determination and a compassionate heart, we can overcome any obstacle and make a lasting impact on the world.
