In 2006, he created a website that would help to train others and offer a wide range of programs. He is also the only trainer in the world to have come up with programs that have workouts specifically for the disabled. Most trainers turn down those in wheelchairs, as they are afraid they may hurt or injure themselves. Sometimes, it may also be because they do not have the expertise to deal with people in wheelchairs. For these trainers, disabled people present a major challenge. However, for Nick, it is something that he lives with every day. He has been in a wheelchair all of his adult life and he has learned to accept himself. Not only that, Nick has excelled at it.
Wheelchair Bodybuilding, Inc. (WCBB) was founded in May 2006 as a non-profit tax-exempted 501(c)(3) organization by Nick Scott dedicated to raising funds to expand and improve opportunities for wheelchair athletes and adaptive athletes.
Nick Scott spent most of his adult life in the wheelchair and promoting the sport of wheelchair bodybuilding. His efforts paid off when he finally managed to get permission to put on the first International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) Pro Wheelchair Bodybuilding competition in 2008. It took him nearly three years to get everything organized. However, he did eventually manage to do it and in 2011, he successfully held the first IFBB Pro Wheelchair Championships. The competition was on October 15, 2011, in Houston, TX at the Houston Pro. The historical significance of that night reverberated throughout the world.
In essence, the recognition meant that wheelchair bodybuilders who compete at a professional level will be recognized and granted their IFBB Professional Status and earns their IFBB Pro Card. The IFBB Pro Card status is the highest rank that any bodybuilder can attain. It is something that all professional bodybuilders aim to achieve in their career. Through the personal efforts of Nick; his determination and perseverance, he managed to achieve for the first time a professional sport took place on the same stage as a disabled sport.
Investing over 10 years of Nick Scott’s life, on Saturday, March 5th, 2016 the IFBB Professional League Pro Wheelchair Division was added to the 2016 Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio – USA. After 13 years, on Saturday, September 15, 2018, the IFBB Professional League Pro Wheelchair Division was added to the 2018 Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada – USA.
The ultimate dream for any athlete in the fitness industry is to compete on those two stages, and Nick made this dream come true for as many athletes.
