Mehdi Memari, better known as “Med,” is a wheelchair bodybuilder based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Originally from Lorestan, Iran, he was born on September 21, 1986.
On February 4, 2013, Med’s life changed forever following a devastating road traffic accident that resulted in an incomplete T11–T12 spinal cord injury and paraplegia. Rather than allowing this life-changing event to define him, he chose to rebuild his life through discipline, resilience, and bodybuilding.
He began training in 2022 with one clear vision—to become the strongest version of himself while inspiring others living with disabilities. What started as a personal journey of recovery quickly became a passion and a purpose.
Today, Med is committed to competing at the highest level of wheelchair bodybuilding while inspiring people around the world to believe that adversity does not define potential. His long-term goal is to earn his IFBB Pro Card and represent the adaptive bodybuilding community on the international stage.
I faced a life-changing incident in a street accident. A car struck me from behind due to the driver's advanced age and blood sugar issues. The impact led to the car's wheel passing over my back, resulting in my spinal cord injury.
The remarkable accomplishments and triumphs of individuals like myself within this sport ignited my interest and motivation to get started.
Observing individuals competing in wheelchairs stirred a deep desire within me to partake in this realm of competitive sports and showcase the strength of the human spirit.
My journey involved a blend of personal prayer and seeking guidance from those with prior experience. Their wisdom and insight have been instrumental in shaping my approach to this endeavor.
Hope, faith, and love serve as my constant motivators. The belief that there's potential for growth, the unwavering faith in my capabilities, and the love for the journey itself keep me moving forward.
I would share the simple truth that if others have achieved greatness, then it's absolutely possible for you to do the same. Let the achievements of fellow individuals pave the way for your aspirations, reminding you that with determination and dedication, every obstacle can be overcome.
