On March 16, 2022, I sustained a spinal cord injury that changed my life. The accident happened while I was snowboarding at Big Bear, California. I was approaching a steep, volcano-like ramp with a flat top when a man unexpectedly paused directly in front of me. In order to avoid a collision, I swerved to the right, which sent me flying about 15 feet into the air. I landed hard on my back, resulting in a T12 incomplete spinal cord injury from a burst fracture. Since that day, I have been navigating life in a wheelchair and continuing to push forward through recovery and adaptation.
