Paraplegic · Spinal Cord Injury · T5–T8 Complete
Blake Colleton is an Australian wheelchair bodybuilder whose life changed dramatically following a serious motocross accident in April 2014.
While competing in a professional motocross race, Blake collided with another rider on the up ramp of a 90-foot jump. He lost his bike in the air and landed headfirst off the side of the track with his head tucked into his chest. The impact fractured his T5, T6, T7, and T8 vertebrae and resulted in a complete spinal cord injury and paraplegia.
Despite the life-changing injury, Blake continued moving forward and eventually found a new competitive outlet through bodybuilding. His journey from professional motocross racing to wheelchair bodybuilding reflects the same determination, competitive drive, and resilience that defined him as an athlete before his accident.
Today, Blake represents Australia in wheelchair bodybuilding and continues to pursue his goals at the highest level of the sport.
During a professional motocross race in April 2014, I collided with another rider on the up ramp of a 90-foot jump. I lost my bike in the air and landed headfirst off the side of the track.
The impact fractured my T5, T6, T7, and T8 vertebrae and caused a complete spinal cord injury, resulting in paraplegia and the use of a wheelchair.
I was a very active kid, always outside and loved doing push ups, pull ups and sit ups any chance I had! After my injury I started doing physiotherapy in the gym and it motivated me to want to see how fit and string I could get, which turned into a bodybuilding obsession!
I’ve always been a very competitive person, and as I was already so obsessed with the gym side of bodybuilding I wanted to push myself even further by competing against others.
I approached the ifbbpro league Australia via email and asked if it was possible to compete at one of there events.
Seeing how much I can improve myself day to day, week to week, month to month, year to year, motivates me to push myself to see just how far I can take it!
Set clear goals and expectations for yourself and commit to them! Do everything you possibly can to achieve them!
Don’t let your fear of not being good enough stop you from competing, you don’t know how good you can actually be until you take that step! Go for it! I waited years to compete thinking I wasn’t good enough, now since competing I wish I had of started sooner!
